about

Open, Old Country, the debut EP from people+places (Brian Paulding and Leon Cotter) was both recorded in and inspired by Cape Breton's beautiful outdoors. Recorded in the front yard of Paulding's family land on the Canadian Island, the music pays reflective homage to nature's beauty.

Minimalist in both instrumentation and structure, Open, Old Country is more a series of contemplative reflections than a collections of songs. Combining manipulated field recordings, stacked takes of slow-building horn improvisations, and understated folk guitar and banjo, people+places introduce a refreshingly new sonic palette. Here, spacious horn hymnals slowly emerge into nature's vastness. Only to disperse again.
